Support Needy Children with Protein-rich foods

As enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, children have the right to an adequate standard of living, and to be free from any form of health, education, nutrition, care or protection related deprivation.

The Ugandan Constitution makes repeated references to food security. In Article XIV and Article XXII, the duties of the State are outlined – to ensure the establishment of ‘national food reserves’ and ‘to encourage and promote proper nutrition through mass education and other appropriate means’. Unfortunately, the average number of meals consumed by majority of household members in Uganda is below the recommended standard.

With a basis to the above attributes, Child2Youth Foundation embarked on a program to feed children on protein-rich food which is not affordable by many poor households.

According to UNICEF-Uganda 2019 Child Poverty Report, absolute poverty is officially defined in Uganda as a ‘condition of extreme deprivation of human needs, characterized by the inability of individuals or households to meet or access the minimum requirements for decent human wellbeing such as nutrition, health, literacy and shelter’ (UBOS, 2012: 60). In Uganda ‘there is general agreement that poverty is a lack of basic needs and services such as food, clothing, bedding, shelter, basic health care and education’ (MFPED 2000b, 2002). These are ‘basic needs’ definitions of poverty which are very similar in content to the human rights minimum core obligation.

It is against that background that Child2Youth Foundation from time to time reach out to Needy Children with basic humanitarian materials such as: mattresses, bed sheets, mosquito nets, blankets and clothes from their Sponsors so as to have a better standard of living and better education.

Food Relief Distribution to the needy Children

What a great opportunity to receive food at this moment when its most needed for our needy children? The truck offloading posho (Maize Corn) to be supplied to most of the needy children. This was a surprise to most of them as they never expected that Child2Youth Foundation through it’s support from True Africa will be able to support it’s needy children. Thanks so much to all our donors to make this happen and this made a great impact in their lives.
